The FA Women’s Championship’s basement battle saw Watford stay bottom on goal-difference after a draw at ten-player Coventry United.

Coventry’s Rio Hardy was denied by Georgie Ferguson minutes before Emma Beckett fired Watford in front from a free kick.

The hosts were close to levelling in first-half stoppage-time, as Ferguson saved from Katy Morris before being booked for a foul on Olivia Fergusson.

Destiney Toussaint saw her header fly across the face of the visitors’ goal but United lost Grace Riglar to a second yellow card early in the second half.

Despite the setback, Coventry were level on 74 minutes when Katie Wilkinson turned her marker and shot home.

They nearly took all three points, as Fergusson hit the side netting and Hardy got through on goal only to be thwarted by Ferguson.
