London City Lionesses went level on points with second-placed Bristol City in the FA Women’s Championship after edging Lewes 1-0.

The only goal came after just six minutes, as Karin Muya’s cross was turned into her own net by the unfortunate Rebecca McKenna.

Lewes missed the chance to equalise from the spot after 56 minutes, when Freda Ayisi’s penalty was saved by Shae Yáñez.

The result moves London City up two places – above Sheffield United and Crystal Palace – in the table, while the Rooks remain eighth.

Fixture for Sunday 17 April

Bristol City v Coventry United (Robins High Performance Centre, 3pm)

The Robins look to again go three points clear in the race for the runners-up spot, while Coventry must win two of their remaining three games to have a chance of staying up.
