Lewes went within two places of Charlton Athletic after a 2-0 victory over them in the FA Women’s Championship.

Charlton had the chance to go top with a win but instead the Rooks climbed two places, to sit level on points with fifth-placed Sheffield United.

Addicks keeper Eartha Cummings denied Ini Umotong, before Emma Folis got through at the other end, only to be thwarted by Tatiana Saunders.

Paula Howells opened the scoring for Lewes on 38 minutes with a 20-yard strike and just moments later, Heidi Logan crossed for Amelia Hazard to tap home and double the advantage.

The visitors were unable to get back in the game after the break, while Umotong had a goal-bound shot blocked for the hosts.
