Aston Villa’s Gemma Davies has been awarded The FA Women’s Championship Manager of the Month trophy for December by the LMA Panel.
This is Davies’ second Manager of the Month award of the 2019/20 season, following three victories in December which kept Villa clear at the top of The FA Women’s Championship table going into the the winter break.
Her team began December with an away victory against London Bees before recording consecutive 3-1 results against Leicester City and London City Lionesses respectively.
“I’m thrilled to have been awarded the Manager of the Month trophy,” Davies told leaguemanagers.com. “Personal accolades mean that things are going well on the pitch for our team, but this award would not have been possible without the work of a dedicated group of staff and players. I’m keen to ensure that they are recognised for their contributions as well as myself.”
Chair of the League Managers Association panel, Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE, said of Davies’ award: “Aston Villa is a club that is investing heavily in the women’s game and this is showing on the pitch this season.
“Gemma and her team have done exceptionally well to reach the winter break unbeaten in the FA Women’s Championship. The three wins in December were vitally important to staying ahead of Sheffield United and Durham, who also enjoyed an excellent month. Gemma’s squad are not reliant on individual talent, but rather appear to be a good group who want to win together as a team.”
