FA Women’s Championship leaders Aston Villa won 3-1 over Leicester City WFC on Saturday evening to make it nine wins in ten.

Leicester held out for most of the match and would have taken an early lead had Sian Rogers not managed to tip a header onto the post.

Foxes’ keeper Demi Lambourne did well to race out and thwart Emma Follis before making a double save to deny Nadine Hanssen and Sophie Haywood.

Leicester also began the second half by going close, Paige Bailey-Gayle’s effort turned away by Rogers but after Lambourne turned a Follis atrike onto the post, Marisa Ewers broke the deadlock with a dozen minutes remaining.

Melissa Johnson scored doubled the advantage on the follow up from Emily Syme’s shot and although the visitors pulled one back through Annabel Blanchard, Johnson set up Shania Hayles for Villa’s third goal in stoppage time.
