Charlton Athletic were denied a second win in the FA Women’s Championship this season, drawing 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers.

The Addicks remain bottom of the table but now just by one point from Coventry United, over whom they have two games in hand, as penalties were exchanged with mid-table Rovers.

The hosts were ahead after 13 minutes, Elisha Sulola brought down in the area and Rachel Newborough stepping up to slot home.

Minutes later, Ella Rutherford preserved the advantage when hooking Hannah Coan’s header off the line from a Natasha Fenton free kick.

Rovers did get their equaliser midway through the second-half, Charlotte Newsham taken down by goalkeeper Eartha Cumings and Elise Hughes netting the resulting spot-kick.

Georgia Walters almost won it for Rovers at the death but her shot across goal went narrowly wide.
