Holders Arsenal required extra-time to get by Reading in an eight-goal thriller.
Rianna Dean and Jessica N’Gunga both scored twice for the Gunners, with Anna Filbey their other scorer.
Bristol City Res 1-1 Oxford United Res (Bristol won 4-3 on pens)
Bristol City missed out on a place in the semi-finals in 2016 after a sudden-death penalties exit but this time they progressed from the spot.
Tied at 1-1 with Oxford United after 120 minutes, the Vixens won through 4-3 in the shoot-out.
Liverpool Res 1-0(aet) Manchester City Res
Manchester City went out at the quarter-final stage again, losing after extra-time at unbeaten Northern Division leaders Liverpool.
With no goals in normal time, only 3 minutes of the extra half-hour had passed when Ali Johnson broke the deadlock for the Reds, lobbing the ball over the City keeper after being played through by Cole.
Man City fought for an equaliser and went close as Rebecca Flaherty made a diving save to maintain Liverpool’s advantage.
Sunderland Res 3-1 Aston Villa Res
Sunderland repeated last year’s feat of reaching the semi-finals, this time by eliminating Aston Villa.
Poppy Pattinson and Georgia Gibson scored early in each half, Mollie Lambert got the third and although Villa then had Sophie Kenny-Levick red-carded, Tanisha Smith scored a consolation.
