Newcastle United have signed former Brighton and Chelsea defender Deanna Cooper who recently left Reading.

She won two WSL titles while at Chelsea and made 68 league appearances for the Royals over four seasons.

Cooper told newcastleunited.com: “I’m delighted to sign for Newcastle United Women. The ambition of the club is something I’ve admired for a while and speaking with Becky Langley only confirmed this as a place I want to be.

“The support and professionalism behind the women’s team is incredible and I can’t wait to work with the players and staff alike.”

Manager Becky Langley said: “Deanna is an experienced and intelligent defender. Her technical ability and defending attributes are fantastic and was hugely successful at Chelsea when she played under Emma Hayes.

“She’s a great girl who will bring experience and knowledge to the team.”
