Everton put five past West Brom in the FA Cup on Thursday night and the win could be very important in terms of the Toffees WSL survival.
Brian Sorensen’s team are struggling near the bottom of the WSL table but their convincing win this week could be a sign of things to come.
Can Everton kick on in the WSL?
This season has been far from ideal for Everton to date.
Despite their disappointing start to the campaign, the Toffees are still two places above relegation at the start of 2026.
There are four points separating the Blues and their bitter rivals Liverpool who are currently bottom of the league.
That gap could be about to open up however, with Everton finally looking like they are hitting form.
Brian Sorensen’s team lost 2-0 to Manchester City in the first game of 2026. The loss to City certainly won’t have been too harmful to Everton, considering the champions elect have dropped points just once this season.
Sorensen was keen not to take the West Brom test lightly this week and his side didn’t mess around.
Everton thrashed West Brom 5-0 away from home and they looked impressive doing it.

Regardless of their opposition’s strength, the Toffees have looked good in back to back games to start the year.
With momentum now on their side Everton will be hoping to ease away from the threat of relegation.
Drama off the pitch for Everton
Not everything has gone well for Everton to start 2026.
The Toffees are struggling off the pitch with both injuries and transfer drama. Unfortunately for Everton, both of the issues are coming in the same position.
Kelly Gago has requested a transfer back to France in January and the striker has accused her club of ‘lacking professionalism’ as she seeks a move away.
Shortly after Gago’s announcement, Everton lost their backup striker Katja Snoeijs to an ankle injury.
Snoeijs is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks and Everton may have to dip back into the transfer market to find a short term replacement.
What next for Everton women?
With Everton getting the ball rolling in 2026, they will be keen to get to their next fixture as quick as possible.
Unfortunately for the Toffees they have a long wait until their next match.
Everton don’t play again until next Friday when they face Brighton under the lights in the WSL.
The Seagulls are just two spots ahead of Everton and if Sorensen’s side wins then they can close the gap to just three points.
Brighton have lost back to back league games and could be vulnerable against an Everton side looking confident.
After Brighton, Everton play London City Lionesses and Aston Villa during a favourable fixture run that they will be hoping secures survival at an early point in the season.
