Everton have signed Netherlands internationals Siri Worm and Marthe Munsterman from FC Twente.
Left-sided defender Worm, 25, has amassed 31 caps for her country, while Munsterman, a 24-year-old central midfielder, made her solitary appearance for Oranje against Estonia in 2015.
Both are on the standby list for the Netherlands ahead of this summer’s European Championships, which start on 16 July, so will join up with their new teammates in August.
The pair helped Twente win five Dutch league titles between 2011 and 2016, and the KNVB Women’s Cup in 2015. They also featured for the Tukkers in the Champions League.
Everton say they are now relishing the chance to gain further experience playing in the Women’s Super League and joining Everton.
“I am very excited to be joining Everton,” Worm told evertonfc.com. “It is a new opportunity for me and a chance to play in England and a nice competition. I am coming to a good Club and I feel good about this move.
“It is a big change for me after so long at FC Twente, but I think I am ready for a new chapter.”
Munsterman is equally thrilled at linking up with the Blue Girls. “I am very happy to be joining Everton,” she added. “It is a big step for me but it is great for my development. It is very special to be joining this Club. When I came here to sign, it was more than I expected so I am very excited. Both Siri and I were warmly welcomed and I can’t wait to get started.
“A lot of girls in the Netherlands side are playing here in England so I heard plenty of good things about the league and the country. I love football so I have watched plenty of English games and I know that Everton is a big club.”
With the Toffees recently becoming full-time, the arrival of two new faces provides another boost to the squad. Both Worm and Munsterman are looking forward to competing in WSL 1 and hope to play their part in helping establish Everton back in the top flight of women’s football.
“Twente are a big, big club in Holland,” added Munsterman. “We were champions for five years and I have played something like 14 games in the Champions League. So I have good experience already.
“I want to continue being successful now that I am at Everton. I want to help the Club do good things and hopefully we can work towards breaking into the top four in the WSL. If we can achieve that, I will be very happy.”
Worm believes she too can bring plenty of know-how to the group after a trophy-laden spell with Twente, adding: “I do have quite a bit of experience. I have a lot of caps for the Netherlands and I have been lucky enough to play in the Champions League. It’s important to bring that with me and help some of the younger players here.
“I want to help Everton gain a good position in the league. We know we will have to work hard but I am looking forward to the challenge.”
