UEFA’s technical team have chosen their all-star squad for UEFA Women’s EURO 2013, which features six Germans, including player of the tournament Nadine Angerer.
Wales coach Jarmo Matikainen, former Belgium coach Anne Noë, Scotland coach Anna Signeul and former Switzerland coach Béatrice von Siebenthal made up the technical team, who said of Angerer’s performance:
“She maintained a very high level in every game, made no mistakes and gave no sign of weakness in any department. She was good at dealing with set plays and organising her defence, and she handled high balls very efficiently. Maybe, more importantly, she inspired a mood of confidence in the whole of Germany’s defensive play.”
Célia Okoyino da Mbabi was amongst Germany’s contingent and her 19 goals for the competition (including qualifying) beating the 18-year record held by her compatriot Patricia Brocker for a single UEFA European Women’s Championship.
France had five players selected, runners-up Norway provided four, as did hosts Sweden, whose Lotta Schelin, won the adidas Golden Boot for her five goals.
Denmark’s Stina Petersen and Katrine Søndergaard Pedersen, Italy’s Melania Gabbiadini and Spain captain Verónica Boquete also made the squad.
