England defender Esme Morgan says that she is using two consecutive European titles as additional fuel as she heads into a new NWSL season with Washington Spirit.

“That’s something that is really driving me this season because I love this team so much, and to be able to succeed and celebrate with these girls is something that really drives me to want to be focused and improve all the time,” she said in a press conference on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old joined the Spirit in 2024. Their season begins in March, opening with a home game against Portland Thorns on Friday, 13th March. They narrowly missed out on silverware last season, finishing second in the league and runners-up in the play-off final.

Esme Morgan: I really enjoyed TV punditry!

Morgan spent some of the close season back in the UK – and as well as attending events such as BBC Sports Personality of the Year, she was also a guest analyst on Sky Sports’ WSL coverage.

And she told SheKicks.net: “It was really fun, actually! I did some stuff with Sky Sports for the 2022 Euros, and so they reached out a few months prior to the end of the season saying, ‘If you’re home, we’d love to get you on and have a go at doing a bit of punditry for one of the WSL games,’ so we managed to arrange it and I really, really enjoyed it!

“It was nice because Caroline Barker, the presenter, is just so amazing at what she does, so switched on, and [co-pundit] Izzy [Christiansen] I know from playing with her at [Manchester] City and very, very briefly at England. We get along really wellShe’s a hilarious character. So in between us being on air, I laughed a lot.

“It was good funIt’s something I’d like to do more of in future.”
