The Lionesses have advanced to the Euro 2025 knockout stage and with the quarter finals set to get underway in just a matter of days, take a look at England’s potential route to the final.
England advance to knockouts
Despite a shock defeat to France in their first group stage game, England have recovered from a poor start to Euro 2025 and qualified for the quarter finals second in Group D.
The Lionesses put Wales to the sword on Sunday night in their final group game and the 6-1 win will give Sarina Wiegman’s team plenty of confidence after a rocky start.
There was six different players on the scoresheet against Wales, with Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp, Alessia Russo, Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones all netting.
With their third defeat of the group stage, Wales were eliminated from contention at Euro 2025 in their first major tournament.
The Lionesses were able to rest some stars in the second half after being up 4-0 at the break with the likes of Beever-Jones shining off the bench yet again.

As England advanced to the knockout stages second in their group they earned a less favourable draw in the quarter final, where they will face Sweden who finished top of a difficult Group C.

Lionesses route to final
England can already plan their route to the final now that the group stage is complete, but first they will have to get past a tricky Sweden outfit.
Sweden were able to ease to the top of their group with wins against Denmark, Poland and finally Germany and despite doubts about their quality in the big games, they were comfortable winners against the Germans on matchday 3.
The Lionesses are favourites to win their quarter final against Sweden, with the UK’s best betting sites pricing England at 1/1 to win the game.
Should England win their quarter final, they would come up against the winner of Norway vs Italy on July 22nd.
Italy are currently favoured to beat Norway in the quarter final but the odds are close with the favourites priced at 6/4 to win in 90 minutes.
If England can enjoy another deep run in the knockouts and make it to a third major final in a row, Sarina Wiegman’s team would face any one of France, Germany, Spain or Switzerland.
Another final against Spain could be on the cards for the Lionesses and after losing to the World Champions at the 2023 World Cup, England could get their revenge as they hunt for back-to-back Euros titles.
