England women’s U-23s defeated 3-2 by Germany

England women’s U-23s struck early in the international with Germany at Walsall FC but ended up being defeated 3-2.

Michelle Agyemang decisively made the visitors pay for a defensive error, whipping the ball home from just outside the penalty area.

Alara Sehitler scored twice to turn the match in Germany’s favour, one a smart finish back across Khiara Keating, the second via an indirect free kick inside the box.

Katie Robinson and Ella Morris combined in setting up Agyemang to slide in at the far post. her second if the game getting England back on level terms before the break.

Ricochets around the six-yard box ended with Keating just keeping the ball from crossing the line but moments later Sophie Weidhauer clipped the ball over the keeper to make it 3-2 in the 51st minute.

Izzy Goodwin was brought down when threatening to race past the German defence but the set piece came to nothing.

England WU19s beaten by Spain

Earlier in the day, England WU19s were beaten 2-0 by Spain in their opening game of the Albir Garden Tournament in Alicante.

Paula Comendador struck from outside the box in only the third minute, with her Real Madrid club-mate Maria Antolin completing the scoring early in the second half.

Lauren Smith’s side next face the USA on Sunday 23 February, before finishing up against the Netherlands next Wednesday.
