A second-half double from Freya Gregory saw England Women’s U-23s beat the Netherlands 2-0 at Walsall FC on Thursday night.

England could have taken the lead as early as the 16th minute when Laura Blindkilde Brown shot over the bar from close range following a corner.

But five minutes into the second half, Gregory tapped in from close range following a cross on the right by Jess Naz.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, Gregory had her second of the night with a half-volley which looped over the goalkeeper.

England could have added the icing on the cake late on when substitute Grace Clinton was unable to convert from close range after a saved effort.

Next up for the WU23s is a game with Italy on Monday (kick-off 1.30pm) at the Stadio Tre Fontane in Rome.
