England Reach Cyprus Cup Final: Quotes

Tony Leighton brings us quotes from Mark Sampson, three-goal Jodie Taylor and the returning Katie Chapman after England again reach the Cyprus Cup final.

Mark Sampson said: “It’s great to be into the final again, but we’ve got Holland in our last group game so first of all we want to win that match.

“We’ve reacted two defeats with two positive performances and results, now I want the girls to go foot to the floor against a good Dutch team.

“We want to go into the final in style, with another good victory under our belt.

“I’m really pleased for Jodie, she’s been playing well for us and those goals have been coming.

“But I don’t want to single out anyone, it was a really efficient team performance and the players can be proud of it.

“It’s good to have Katie back in the group, she fitted back in as if she hadn’t been away

“She was positionally very sound, as aggressive as ever, good on the ball and a threat in both boxes.”

“She brings real experience to the team, tactical nous and she’s a great character – an out and out winner.”

Jodie Taylor: “I’m pretty damned happy.

“Every game I’ve played I’ve wanted to get off the mark. I came close against America when I put the ball in the net and the goal should have stood, but it was ruled out by a poor offside decision.

“But I do believe that once you’ve got one goal others will follow, and that was shown today.

“As well as the joy at getting my first goal it was a huge relief – and I’m so happy to have gone on and got a hat-trick.”

Katie Chapman: “It’s great to be back after so many years and representing my country again. I felt I played well today, but so did the whole team.

“It was great result for us. Now we’re looking forward to the Holland match and aiming to improve with every game.”
