England’s last game before UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 was a 4-0 victory in Switzerland, watched by a Swiss record crowd of around 11,000.

Fran Kirby saw her early effort well saved by Seraina Friedli trailing leg, the keeper then just preventing the ball from spinning over the line when Alessia Russo met Lauren hemp’s Cross.

Rachel Daly had a header nodded off the line by Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic, who later went close to giving Switzerland the lead in trying to connect with a far-post cross.

Russo made the breakthrough before the hour mark, heading Daly’s delivery back across the keeper and inside the post.

Coumba Sow could not make the most of a chance to equalise, while Beth England did force a save when she had a header tipped over the bar.

Hemp’s volley was cleared off the line but a penalty was given for handball and Georgia Stanway buried the 73rd-minute spot-kick into the bottom corner.

It was soon 3-0 as Stanway’s corner kick was headed home by England, Chloe Kelly letting the ball go through her legs.

With the last play of the game, Jill Scott nodded in from a Kelly cross.
