Emily Scott On Her FAWSL Move

Emily Scott reflects with mfcladies.co.uk on her two years at Middlesbrough after recently signing for FAWSL2 side Durham WFC.

Was leaving a difficuly decision?
It really was a difficult decision in the end, I have loved my time at Middlesbrough and I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone there, the players, the coaches, the managers, and all the ladies and gentlemen in the background. They have all been fantastic over the past 2 seasons.

Why now?
I needed a challenge, I needed to test myself at the highest possible level that I could, and the opportunity at Durham was too good to turn down. It’s a club on the up with a fantastic setup and a great squad of players which I want to be a part of.

Sum up last season, were you happy with your performance?
I think if we are all being honest we had a disappointing year as a team, with the players we had we should have challenged much higher in the [Northern Combination] league competition, but we had a lot of new players which made it difficult particularly at the beginning of the season.
Personally, I am happy with my game at the minute, I consistently chipped in with goals from midfield as well as providing that creativity in the middle of the park, but I know I can offer much more and I hope making the step up the WSL2 and playing for Durham will allow me to show that.

Who did you enjoy playing with at MFC Ladies?
It is such a difficult question as there are so many players i could pick out, but for me it is the spine of the team; Clare Helm in defence, Sarah Manning in midfield, and striker Nicky Duckling. They all have fantastic football ability, but what stands out for me is their banter, passion, and competitive spirit.  I have had a fantastic time playing alongside them.

The opportunity to join Durham was too good to miss then?
Yes for me it was, it is the right time for me to step up and challenge myself at this level.

They could do with your goalscoring abilities to help them climb the table!
Ha! Yes I hope I can chip in with a few goals, each season I set myself a target of scoring goals from midfield. It is something that I am capable of, and has made me a more dangerous midfielder, so I hope I can do the same for Durham this year.

You played with Jess Round at Middlesbrough so it will be good to be in same team again?
Yes I had one season with Jess at Middlesbrough and we also have had experience playing at Leeds United but at different times. It will be nice to see one familiar face at my first training session, there are so many good players at Durham, I am now just looking forward to working hard in training and proving myself to them and the management team.

Good to play at FAWSL level 2?
It’s excellent, I cannot even explain how excited I am to have this opportunity. I have played women’s football for a while now and to see where it has come in a short space of time is just mad, and I am just grateful to Durham WFC and the staff for having the faith in my ability which will allow me to experience it!
