Elly Maggs gave QPR’s new 2016/17 strip the seal of approval after getting her hands on it for the first time whilst representing QPR Ladies at the #HoopsAllTheWay kit reveal in London.
The captain joined Men’s 1st Team trio Tjaronn Chery, Grant Hall and Sebastian Polter on stage for the R’s official unveiling at Smarkets HQ – watched by 25,000 fans live on the club’s Facebook page.
“It was so nice to be asked [to be involved],” she told www.qprlfc.co.uk. “It’s a special occasion for QPR fans and it’s great to be a part of it.
“I’m looking forward to getting this new QPR kit on for the new season.”
Last week’s event was the latest collaboration between QPR’s Men’s and Ladies sides – and Maggs admits the ever-growing support from the club doesn’t go unnoticed by her team-mates.
“It’s so lovely to be included and have the support of the club,” she said. “Year on year it gets better and it’s certainly appreciated by me and all the girls.”
Back on the pitch, QPR returned to pre-season training this week as Martino Chevannes’ side begin their preparations for the new FA Women’s Premier League season.
Rangers finished ninth during a topsy-turvy 2015/16 campaign, but weren’t helped by the departures of six players to the FA Women’s Super League midway through the campaign.
Maggs hopes, with a few new recruits and a stable squad, they can improve on that this time around.
“It’s a fresh start and hopefully we can build on last season,” she added. “There has been a lot of changes in the team and it’s important to keep that core of the team and build around that. We need people with the right character who want to give their all for the club.
“It’s always a long, hard season and we suffered a lot from injuries last year. It’s also why need a big squad.
“We always seem to have peaks and troughs during the season so it’s important we keep the same squad which will hopefully bring consistency with it. I think that’s the key to us doing well this season.”
QPR kick-off the 2016/17 FA Women’s Premier League season on Sunday 21st August.
