Eastern League kick-off sees near 500 crowd at St Albans City

The Eastern League was the first women’s regional competition to start the new season and did so with almost 500 fans for St Albans City’s game with Needham Market.

Premier – There were 469 fans at Clarence Park for St Albans City’s inaugural competitive match since taking over Colney Heath’s first team but Needham Market went away with a 4-2 victory, aided by Mia Etheridge-Golding’s double.

Wroxham are initial leaders following their dozen goals at Kings Lynn Town, four of which were scored by Hannah Fuller.

Haringey Borough drew 1-1 with visitors Luton Town, Bowers & Pitsea edged Royston Town in a seven-goal thriller,

Real Bedford beat Stevenage 4-1 who had Emily Schofield sent off, Barking defeated AFC Dunstable 5-0.

1 North – Two impressive regional league debuts saw Thetford Town hit hosts St Ives Town for six aided by a Kamile Omeleviciute hat-trick and Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers down Biggleswade United Reds 5-0.

Newmarket Town also got five at Stevenage Development, Fakenham Town were 5-3 winners over Wootton Blue Cross Lionesses as Chloe Gravett and Rochelle Woods bagged a brace each.

Two more high-scoring games saw Histon see off Harpenden Town 4-3 and Mulbarton Wanderers just get the better of Yaxley Phoenix by the same scoreline.

1 South – Hertford Town had a crowd of 143 for their 3-1 success against Billericay Town Development, Lawford drew 4-4 with Wormley Rovers after having trailed 3-1 at half-time.

Stanway Pegasus’s Jade Horne got the only goal at Grays Athletic, Southend United took the points 2-1 at Hutton, while Wodson Park ran out 5-1 victors at Cheshunt.

Next Sunday, 20 August, sees the London & South East, North East and North West Leagues kick-off, while there’s a wait until 3 September for the commencement of the East Midlands, Southern, South West and West Midlands campaigns.
