Early Goals See England U-17s Beat Germany

John Griffiths side go into the last round of Elite group matches as leaders, following up Saturday’s win over Poland with a 3-1 victory against Germany.

All the goals at AFC Telford United came inside the first quarter of an hour, beginning with Emily Syme netting after only 2 minutes.

It got better still for England as Gabriella Ravnscroft doubled the lead with just 11 minutes played.

Germany replied 2 minutes later through Verena Wieder and although they outshot the hosts, they could not find an equaliser.

Young Lionesses substitute Ella Rutherford was sent off after a second yellow card but there was only moments left to play.

Italy were 2-0 winners over Poland in Monday’s other Group 3 game. Sara Baldi’s 12th-minute goal was added to 3 minutes from time by Asia Bragonzi.

The last group games are on Thursday March 30th, when England face Italy on the main pitch at St George’s Park (2pm), where a draw will be enough to see the home side qualify for this summer’s finals in the Czech Republic from 2 to 14 May,

Germany finish up against Poland also at 2pm this Thursday and they meet at AFC Telford United.
