UEFA U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP
GROUP A: Slovakia 0-6 Netherlands, France 0-1 Norway
GROUP B: Austria 0-4 Swtizerland, Spain 1-0 Germany
The Netherlands began the UEFA U-19 Championship finals in Slovakia by thtashing the hosts 6-0. Sippi Folkertsma opened the scoring midway through the first half, with Jill Roord doubling the lead on 37 minutes and then Stephanie Deszathová conceding an own-goal. Rood went on to complete a hat-trick after the break, with Michelle Hendriks also getting on the scoresheet.
The other Group A tie saw Norway defeat France by the only goal. France had Hawa Cissoko dismissed for a professional foul on Siw Døvle after 22 minutes and Katrine Jørgensen headed a Nora Lie corner home on 36 minutes.
Swtizerland are the early leaders of Group B, following a 4-0 victory over Austria. Cinzia Zehnder put the Swiss ahead after Naomi Mégroz’s charging run down the right and the latter then made it 2-0 on the hour mark. In the last 13 minutes, Lara Jenzer and a second from Zehnder sealed the three points.
Spain, runners-up in three of the last four competitions, started with a 1-0 win against Germany. The breakthrough arrived on 62 minutes, when Andrea Sánchez crossed for Nahikari García to finish.
The second round of group matches takes place om Friday.
