Double Defeat For England In U-17 Tournie

Emily Syme had given England an early lead in Salou (Spain) but Germany’s Sjoeke Nüsken bagged a brace, Nicole Anyomi also netted and Grace Neville conceded an own-goal – all before the break.

Marleen Schimmer made it 5-1 at the start of the second half and although Syme scored again, Alicia-Sophie Gudorf and a second goal for Anyomi made it 7-2.

Germany had earlier put four first-half goals past France, through Anyom, two from Anna-Lena Stolze and one by Nüsken. Ivana Fuso and Melissa Kössler took the tally to six, Mickaella Cardia and Melvine Mallard pulled a goal back each, wth Lena Uebach netting inbetween.

The week had begun with France beating England thanks to two goals in the last 9 minutes. Chloé Philippe broke the deadlock and then Maëlle Lakrar made sure of the victory at the death.

The three-nation mini-tournament was in preparation for the UEFA U-17 Championship elite round from 25-30 March, in which England host Germany, Italy and Poland – with matches played at AFC Telford, Keys Park (Cannock) and St George’s Park – in the battle to qualify for the finals in the Czech Republic (2-14 May).
