The Rams report that Johnson (19) was part of the Doncaster side that were promoted to the top flight last season, having been at the club for the past three years. Prior to that the full back spent ten years at the highly acclaimed Sheffield United Centre of Excellence.
According to Manager, John Bennett (pictured with Johnson) the move works well for both club and player.
“Through a combination of injuries, transfers and the way in which the team has been set up, we find ourselves short in terms of the full back positions and when we found out that a player of Molly’s calibre was potentially available, we knew we had to act quickly. She brings a tenacity that we’ve perhaps been a bit light on previously and the quality that comes with having spent three seasons at a club of the calibre of Belles.”
Johnson’s capture follows hot on the heels of the arrival of former WSL players, Leanne De Silva and Nicole Dale and according to Bennett more signings are likely.
“Six players from last season have left the club and we would ideally like to replace those to get ourselves back up to a squad of eighteen. As with any team, we are looking for those that we bring in to add both a quality and experience that collectively makes the squad stronger. I’m delighted with who we’ve brought in so far and if we can get a few more over the line of similar standard then I firmly believe that we will have achieved our aim.”
