NIFL Danske Bank Women’s Premiership leaders Linfield suffered defeat and also sustained a serious injury at fifth-placed Sion Swifts on Friday evening.

Amy Boyle-Carr opened the scoring for the Swifts after a lengthy delay due to a serious knee injury for Linfield’s Alison Smyth.

Michelle McDaid later doubled the lead for the hosts, to seal an impressive victory over the Champions League entrants.

It was only the second time Linfield had failed to take maximum points in the current campaign and a just a third win in eight games for Sion, who consequently move up to fourth in the table.

The result did a big favour to third in the table Cliftonville, who can now catch Linfield with their two matches in hand.
