The MBNA Northwest Football Awards 2016 were held at The Point at Lancashire Cricket Ground last night, a glitzy black tie event that celebrates all things good in the region’s football world, from grass roots to the Premier League and the treatment table to the Boardroom.
All of the player-related awards were voted for by football fans and were shared across the Manchester and Merseyside clubs.
Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho was named Premier League Player of the Year and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford the Rising Star in the men’s awards. Whilst Manchester City’s Izzy Christiansen picked up the Women’s Player of the Year for her stunnnig form in 2015 through to 2016 and Everton’s Georgie Brougham was awarded Rising Star.
Izzy’s boss Nick Cushing made it a double success for the title holders when he claimed one of the main prizes of the evening despite competition from Premier League and Football League counterparts. The Manchester City manager who has guided his team through an unbeaten 2016 WSL1 season, won the Continental Cup and an ongoing Champions League campaign (which continues this week in Denmark against Brondby) was selected by the judging panel as the outstanding candidate for Manager of the Year in the North West Region.
