Crewe Alexandra Promoted To Premier League

‘Alex’ took the title on Wednesday evening with a game to spare, with a 3-0 away win at City of Manchester.

Unbeaten Crewe had gone through a spell of only one win from four games but crucially they held off championship rivals Blackburn CSC, Bolton Wanderers and Manchester Stingers with draws.

With their only challengers eventually down to Bolton, Crewe knew a victory in midweek would make them champions.

Kate Evans latched onto a Josie Alderman cross to open the scoring but struggled for quality and composure as they looked to add to their lead.

The second goal of the game came from the free-scoring Shelley James, who found herself unmarked in the opposition box and a delivery from Evans allowed her so sweep home.

In the second half, Amanda Fallon notched her 29th goal of the season to put the result beyond doubt and complete a double, having already won the Cheshire Cup.

Crewe tie-up their campaign on Sunday with a game at Blackpool FC’s Bloomfield Road ground.
