Republic of Ireland go into the second game of their UEFA Women’s U-19 Championships qualifying round group against Moldova in Kristianstad, Sweden, tomorrow afternoon (2pm).
Dave Connell’s side won 3-0 in their opening fixture against Montenegro on Saturday while the Moldovans lost by the same score to the Swedes.
Captain Savannah McCarthy is ruled out with an injury but the rest of the squad is fit.
“We may make one or two changes,” said Connell. “We have looked at Moldova on the DVD of their game against Sweden and we’ll be well-prepared. We’ll still be focusing more on ourselves.
“We’ll expect to have a lot of the ball. We’ll have to use it wisely. Having said that we will still have to work hard to create chances.
“Moldova played one up against Sweden, so were basically defending with 11. We’ll expect to get chances and I hope we will be a bit more composed than we were at times against Montenegro.
“A positive for us against Montenegro was getting three goals from set-pieces. Megan Connolly puts in great deliveries and we have players who’ll be brave and get on the end of those crosses, so with a bit of luck a few more of those chances will go in.”
