Cliftonville completed an historic treble in style as they defeated Lisburn Rangers in the Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup final.
Caitlin McGuinness hit a hat-trick in front of 1,654 spectators at Windsor Park, for the side who secured the league and Irish Cup double for the first time in their history, as well as their first-ever treble of league, Irish Cup and League Cup.
Cliftonville opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Caitlin McGuinness fed midfielder McDaniel inside the area and she took a touch before smashing the ball into the top corner from 10 yards.
McGuinness then latched on to a pass from Danielle Maxwell, and fired a low drive into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 on 15 minutes.
Marissa Callaghan saw her effort from distance tipped onto the post by Emma Higgins, before Caitlin McGuinness made it 3-0 in the 68th minute from Callaghan’s perfectly weighted pass.
Substitute Victoria Carleton scored the Reds’ fourth on the half-volley and Caitlin McGuinness rounded off her hat-trick late on.
