Cliftonville stay top of Women’s Premiership with statement win

Sports Direct NIFL Women’s Premiership defending champions Cliftonville stayed top of the table with a statement win over Sion Swifts.

Caitlin McGuinness got two goals inside the opening ten minutes, Danielle Maxwell added a third midway through the first half, efore Marissa Callaghan wrapped up the scoring up.

Glentoran remain hot on the leaders’ heels following a thumping 8-1 defeat of Lisburn Ladies, that featured four goals from Rachel Rogan in the first 24 minutes.

Linfield, now in third spot, had a seven-goal victory over Mid Ulster, set up by Rebecca Bassett’s early goal and an Ebony Leckey first-half double. Keri Halliday also bagged a brace in the second half.

Crusaders are just behind the Blues on goal difference after a 4-0 defeat of Larne at Seaview, where Faith Johnston opened the scoring from the spot on 18 minutes and doubled up just after the half-hour mark. Darcy Boyle and  Caitlyn Hamilton were the other scorers.

Ballymena United came from behind to win 3-2 at Derry City, whose Cate Toland had struck first. Kylie Doherty levelled before the break, Ella McDowell put the visitors in front and although Abby Alexander equalised, Ellen McClure secured a first win of the season for United.
