Canada’s Christine Sinclair ended her international career with 331 appearances, teammate Sophie Schmidt also departing after being capped 226 times.

Sinclair is the world’s second-highest capped international in women’s or men’s football, only behind former USA veteran Kristine Lilly who totalled 354 appearances.,

Her goodbye came in front of over 48,000 at Christine Sinclair Place in Vancouver, with a 1-0 win over Australia.

Sinclair played her part in the goal, heading on a Jessie Fleming corner kick, after which Kadeisha Buchanan’s shot was tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Teagan Micah, only for Quinn to nod in the rebound.

Meanwhile, the USA were ending 2023 with a 2-1 victory over China but they had to come from behind to do so.

Celtic’s Shen Mengyu opened the scoring in first-half stoppage-time, Sam Coffey equalised and Jaedyn Shaw netted a 79th-minute winner.

Among other internationals, Colombia edged New Zealand with a Daniela Montoya goal and Brazil beat Nicaragua 4-0 after a goal apiece from Nunes, Marta, Luana and Aline Milene.
