Chelsea and Australia striker Sam Kerr has been announced as the 2021/22 Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year.

The Matildas star has been enjoying another sensational season for Emma Hayes’ side, with 28 goals in all competitions so far, including 18 in the FA WSL for the league leaders.

The 28-year-old also became her country’s all-time leading goalscorer (male or female) earlier this year, equalling and surpassing Tim Cahill’s record of 50 during the Aussies’ 18-0 win over Indonesia in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in January.

Kerr was the WSL’s Golden Boot winner with 21 goals last season, and currently leads the way again, six ahead of Arsenal star Vivianne Miedema.

Since moving to England during the 2019/20 campaign, the former Chicago Red Stars player has come up with 40 goals in 44 league matches, with 12 assists also to her name.

She has 22 goals for club and country so far in this calendar year.
