Chelsea went top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table after a 2-0 victory over West Ham United at Kingsmeadow.
West Ham made a fast start and Emma Harries might have given them the lead, before Chelsea’s Sam Kerr had a goal ruled out for offside.
Kerr did put the Blues ahead on 36 minutes, with a firm header into the far corner from a Niamh Charles cross.
Lauren James could have doubled the advantage before the break but Mackenzie Arnold blocked the shot with an outstretched boot.
Kirsty Smith threatened an equaliser early in the second half, her overhead kick needing a touch over the crossbar by Zećira Mušović.
Arnold did well to turn round the post a deflected cross from Charles, as Chelsea struggled to find a second goal.
Erin Cuthbert did eventually seal the win with a 90th-minute goal, following a one-two with fellow substitute Jessie Fleming.
Another sub, Aggie Beever-Jones, saw her 20-yard angled drive turned over by Musovic.
