Chelsea Women completed their pre-season programme with a 3-1 victory away to Israel in front of the hosts new record crowd of 8,534.

The match, which was sponsored by Roman Abramovich and the Israeli FA, was staged to celebrate women’s football and support further development of women’s sport in Israel.

Chelsea took an early lead as Fran Kirby cut the ball back and Guro Reiten’s strike fell kindly for Bethany England, who directed the ball into the back of the net from close range.

The Blues also struck in the opening minutes of the second half, England turning the ball back for Magdalena Eriksson to fire into the roof of the net from the corner of the box.

The hosts replied just after the hour mark as Daniel Sofer’s delivery found an unmarked Vered Cohen who looped her header over Carly Telford at into the net.

Eriksson hit the woodwork and Cohen went close for Israel when through one-on-one, before Ji So-yun’s flick into the penalty area was controlled and volleyed home by Sophie Ingle.
