Chelsea vs Manchester City preview
The WSL gets underway at Stamford Bridge on Friday night, with Chelsea hosting Manchester City.
This season’s first game is sure to be a thriller as two of the league’s top four from last year go head to head.
Chelsea won their sixth WSL title in a row last season and they went unbeaten in the league for the second time in history.
While they have been so dominant in England over the last few years, other teams in the WSL may have finally caught up to the Blues who will be keen to kick off their campaign with a win.
Mara Alber, Ellie Carpenter, and Livia Peng all joined Chelsea this summer and could be in line to make their competitive debut this week.
Blues boss Sonia Bompastor has also teased a return for superstar striker Sam Kerr who has been injured since January 2024.
“I can’t wait to get back to scoring goals.” 🔥
Sam Kerr is ready to get back on the pitch for Chelsea. 🔙

Manchester City have enjoyed a positive pre-season and will be confident coming into a tough match on Friday.
The Cityzens finished 17 points behind Chelsea in fourth last season in what was their most disappointing campaign since there was only 11 teams in the league.
City have signed Iman Beney, Sydney Lohmann, Jade Rose, Eartha Cumings and Laura Wienroither this year.
Chelsea Vs Manchester City Bet Builder Tips
- Chelsea (W) to win @ 4/6
- Catarina Macario to score anytime @ 13/8
- Khadija Shaw to score anytime @ 13/8
Chelsea to Win @ 4/6
Having won six league titles in a row, Chelsea will be confident as ever coming into their WSL opener this Friday.
The Blues are 4/6 favourites to beat Manchester City with betting sites which we think represents real value.
Chelsea have won five of the last six home games against Manchester City.
City’s only win in the last four meetings between these teams came at home in the Champions League last season.
Catarina Macario to Score Anytime @ 13/8
Chelsea have a lot of injury concerns coming into the first game of the season which is why their odds to win are so good.
With Lauren James and Sam Kerr both expected to miss out on the opening fixture of the season, the Blues may rely on some of their lesser known forwards.
Catarina Macario very much played a supporting role last season for Chelsea but with six goals in the WSL last year we think the American forward can get off to a quick start.
Khadija Shaw to Score Anytime @ 13/8
Unlike Chelsea, City have almost everyone available to them for Friday’s fixture, including back to back Golden Boot winner Khadija Shaw.
Shaw shared the award with Alessia Russo last year with 12 goals in 14 games – with only injury preventing Shaw scoring more.
In 2023/24 Shaw won the title on her own with 18 goals in 21 games.
Although Chelsea should be a tough test this weekend, Shaw has the ability to score against any defence in the league and at 13/8 the Jamaican is a great bet to score.
