Chelseafc.com says that the 25-year-old forward has agreed a deal until 2019 and will officially link up with manager Emma Hayes’s side in January, when the transfer window opens.
She played a key role as Wolfsburg reached the 2016 UEFA Women’s Champions League final with Chelsea one of the sides they had to overcome.
‘I am excited to be joining Chelsea and can’t wait to begin training with my new team-mates,’ she said.
‘I know the qualities Chelsea have after our Champions League games and hope I will be able to add to that and improve the team in the season ahead.
‘I want to win trophies and believe I am at the best place to do that.’
Bachmann, who can operate out wide or through the middle, has scored 39 international goals in just 67 appearances for her country and has twice been named Switzerland’s Women’s Player of the Year.
‘She is a dynamic, creative spark that will make people get off their feet,’ said Hayes.
‘Fans love that sort of player and she will suit the English game, because she is explosive and will make things happen around the penalty box.
‘She can play a number of positions and I think the fans will love her. We are delighted to add her to our squad and I have no doubt she will set the division alight when we return to competitive action.’
The signing of Bachmann by Hayes follows the arrival of Norway captain Maren Mjelde last month.
