Charlton Athletic have signed midfielder Mel Filis on loan from West Ham United until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old signed her first professional contract with West Ham in July 2021 and has been capped by England up to U-23 level.

Filis told charltonafc.com: “I’m looking forward to the next six months – I’ve experienced a year in the Championship before which was really beneficial because they were my first real senior minutes.

“I think the Championship has come on a lot since then and, in a short space of time, there has been huge changes and the standard has really increased a lot. You can see that with Women’s Super League players now floating around the league.”

The Essex-born midfielder began her career with Arsenal and, following a successful spell with London Bees, signed her first professional contract with WSL outfit West Ham in July 2021.
