Aston Villa have confirmed that Carla Ward will become the new manager of their Women’s team, with Gemma Davies and Marcus Bignot having left.

Ward will take up her new position next month, after recently announcing her departure from Birmingham City.

The 37-year-old was nominated for the WSL Manager of the Year award after helping keep the Blues in the Barclays FA WSL despite a testing campaign.

She was previously in charge at Sheffield United and achieved fifth and second place finishes with the Blades in the FA Women’s Championship.
