Cardiff’s five-goal margin of victory was just enough to send them top. They took moments to go in front against Portsmouth and then Kerry Bartlett doubled the lead with a stunning volley. City went in 4-0 up at the interval, completing the scoring on 70 minutes, afterwhich they had a penalty saved by Courtney Trodd.
Midlands Division 1
Wolves continue to chase down Midlands Division 1 leaders Loughborough Foxes, following their 4-0 victory over Steel City Wanderers. A Jade Cross effort was followed by an own-goal on 15 minutes, with Anna Perks and Hattie James the second-half scorers.
Sporting Khalsa slipped to third with a 4-1 reverse at Birmingham & West Midlands. Leah Seivwright (2) Annie Pritchard and Maimee Morris got the home goals, Stpehanie Speck having pulled one back to make it 2-1.
Radcliffe Olympic are up to fourth after their 5-3 result at home to Loughborough Students, who stayed competitive with goals from Maria Cienfuegos, Rosanna Frith-Salem and Rebecca Hopkins.
Leicester City Ladies pulled off a fine 4-1 scoreline over Long Eaton United.
But the Foxes stay in the bottom two, as Solihull picked up a point in a 3-3 tie at TNS, thanks to goals from Natalie Courtney, Carly Davies and Carly Brown.
Northern Division 1
Chester le Street Town and Leeds began the day on the same points but the hosts ran out 3-0 winners to climb to fourth spot. One-nil up at half-time, goals from Rachel Kay and Nichole Goundry-Havery sealed the points.
Morecambe’s 5-2 win at next to bottom Mossley Hill sent them level on pints with fifth-placed Liverpool Feds.
South East Division 1
MK Dons moved four points clear at the top with a 4-1 success at Ipswich Town. However, it was Lindsay Cooper who put Town in front on 16 minutes but that just stung the Dons into action, as they turned the game round in only 3 minutes. Hannah Barrett and Leah Cudone both went on to score twice.
Unbeaten Gillingham continue to climb, posting a 4-0 result at Actonians to go fifth.
South West Division 1
Southampton Saints go third as they maintained their unbeaten start against a winless Exeter City. The Grecians fought well but conceded a goal in each half.
Brislington Town put four points between themselves and Cheltenham Town, whom they beat 3-1 away in a mid-table meeting.
