Cambridge United Sign Dawn Mallett

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper at CUWFC and is Uniteds’ first signing of the summer.

Mallett started her WSL career at London Bees before signing for Watford. She then made the move south of the river, signing for Millwall Lionesses.

Mallett becomes manager Steve Edwards’s first signing of the summer, and the U’s gaffer is delighted to have the all round-midfielder on board after trying numerous times to sign her permanently.

“I am delighted we’ve signed her, because she is a player I really wanted to bring into our environment,” said Edwards.

“I believe Dawn’s game is built perfectly for our style of football. She likes to get stuck in and stamp her authority on games. She’s hard working and plays with great passion.”

Meanwhile, club captain Laura Bright has signed on for another year and the centre-back commented;

“These are hugely exciting times for the club and I’m delighted to be part of it.

“I’m looking forward to the season ahead and I hope we can really push on as a club”.

Edwards added; “I’m glad our club captain has signed for the 2016/17 season. She had offers from WSL clubs but Laura knows what we’re building here and she wants to be part of it”.

Cambridge will play a Spurs XI at their new home of Mildenhall Town FC on Sunday 24th July, 2pm KO.
