A crowd of 135 turned out for the clash of last season’s Devon League champions and the County Cup holders.
After a frantic early spell, it was amazing that 39 minutes passed before the first goal arrived, Plymouth’s Kayley Lane turning in Katie Middleton’s flick-on from a corner.
Buckland found an equaliser just before the break, as Maria Warman worked her way into the box before laying the ball to Helen Kukor who made no mistake.
The second half also began with end to end football and it was the hosts who scored first from the spot on 62 minutes, Becky Atkins dismissed for bringing down Kirsty Caunter and Hayley Chamberlain converting the resulting penalty.
Buckland went on to book their place in the final with two goals within a minute. Laura Gough hit home a fine strike from the edge of the box and then Caunter replicated the finish.
Substitute Gaby Alphous pulled a goal back for the Pilgrims but with 5 minutes to go, it was too little too late.
“I’m over the moon for them,” Buckland manager Grant Fisher told clubnets.co.uk/bucklandlfc. “They have great ability, they believe in themselves and I said to them before the game I wouldn’t swap any of them for Plymouth.
“To beat a side two leagues above you 4-2 is an absolute testament to what they do and how hard they work – and after going one-nil down as well it was an outstanding reaction.
“People forget we knocked out Exeter in the last round, so we’ve knocked out the two highest-ranked teams in the competition.
“Long may it continue, this great journey we’re on.”
The 7th April final will be against Marine Academy Plymouth, who enjoyed a 6-1 victory over Plympton.
There was nearly a second County Cup shock in the South West, as FAWPL newcomers Brislington needed penalties to get past Regional League Bishops Lydeard. Tied at 2-2 at full time, with no further goals in extra time, the hosts edged through 3-2 in the shoot-out.
