Bristol City wing-back Mari Ward has celebrated her 18th birthday by signing her first professional contract with the Barclays Women’s Super League side.

She made her debut as a 17-year-old last January, playing 90 minutes in a 3-2 win over Coventry United and earning the Pick of the Match award.

Since then, she has gone on to make another 25 appearances, including winning a penalty against Leicester City on her WSL debut in October.

Ward told “I’m delighted to have signed my first professional contract. I’ve gained so much experience over the last year and I’m excited to continue my development with this club.

“We’ve got a big second half of the season to come and I’m looking forward to that challenge and beyond.”
