Bristol City Women have signed striker Melissa Johnson, who spent last season with Sheffield United.

She made nine starts for the Blades and scored six goals, while in 2019/20 she netted 12 times to help Aston Villa gain promotion to WSL.

Johnson told bcfc.co.uk: “I’m delighted to be joining Bristol City as we build towards the start of the new Championship season.

“We’re not far away now from the start of the season so I’m aiming to hit the ground running for the last few weeks of pre-season and that’ll hopefully lead to a strong start.

“I’ve spoken a lot with Lauren (Smith) about her plans for the team this season and where I fit in to those, and I’m looking forward to working with her. I’m going to push myself in training so I can put in the performances I know I’m capable of. I want to contribute to a successful season for the club.”

She could make her debut on Sunday 15 August, when the Robins take on Lewes at the High Performance Centre, kick-off 3pm.
