Brighton & Hove Albion Women Sign Two Whelans

Brighton & Hove Albion have made two further additions to their squad ahead of the upcoming WSL 2 season, after confirming the signings of Aileen Whelan and Fern Whelan.

The defender and striker both arrive at the club with extensive experience, after featuring for Everton and Notts County in the FA WSL.

Assistant first-team manager Amy Merricks told seagulls.fawsl.com: “We are delighted to welcome Aileen and Fern to the club.

“Both players have played at the very highest level, and their knowhow will be vital heading into this season.

“Along with the signings of Fliss [Gibbons], Danielle [Buet] and Ini [Umotong], we are very pleased with how the squad is shaping up.”

As well as playing for both Everton and Notts County, Fern has three senior England caps to her name, and appeared in the FA Cup Final for the Toffees against Arsenal in 2014.

Aileen has represented England at U-23 level and competed at the World Student Games, winning the gold medal at the 2013 tournament.
