Brazil Appoint New Head Coach

Former player Emily Lima, who led her club Sao Jose to a runner-up finish in the Brazilian Cup last month, will replace Oswaldo Alvarez, who despite winning Gold with Brazil at the 2015 Pan Am Games failed to get a medal at the 2016 Rio Games (lost to Sweden on penalties at semi-final stage) .

Lima’s time in charge will properly kick off on 7th Dec at the International Tournament of Manaus where Brazil are set to play Costa Rica, play Russia and Italy.

Having played for the first Brazil U17s side in 1997, Lima then moved to Spain and Italy to play, featuring for the Portugal national team as a defensive midfielder (2007-2009) before being forced to retire at 29 due to a knee injury.

With coaching/technical experience with Portugal and Juventus before returning to Brazil, Lima has the pedigree and also a great understanding of the international women’s game.

With suitable backing from the CBF (Brazil Football Federation), these could be exciting times for the Brazil WNT as they build towards France 2019.
