Bradford City captain, Charlotte Stuart spoke to us, ahead of the Bantams’ trip to tackle FA WSL 2 side Yeovil Town in the SSE Women’s FA Cup 3rd Round this Sunday..
SK: How much are you looking forward to taking on Yeovil?
CS: It’s always a good challenge taking on a team in the league above, being the underdog with no pressure, makes for an exciting game.
SK: Have you had any experience of competing against WSL opposition before?
CS: Yes, we played last year against Doncaster in the FA Cup, so we have previous experience, Doncaster are a good side and that was seen with their promotion. Although we got beat, we made a good account of ourselves and walked off the pitch proud.
SK: Were your preparations hampered much by last Sunday’s County Cup postponement?
CS: No I don’t think they were, there’s no better preparation than playing but we’ve been working hard at training and will carry that on this week to make sure we are fully prepared.
Pictured: Bradford City celebrate a goal against Huddersfield Town.
SK: Your league campaign seems a bit all or nothing (5 wins, 5 losses, no draws), how do you feel about that?
CS: Yes, we’ve not done ourselves justice within the league so far unfortunately, which is very disappointing. But we have made some changes over the Christmas period and are hoping we can start challenging at the top of the league.
SK: What would you says have been the highs and lows so far?
CS: I think we have had a very up and down season so far, with more lows than highs but certainly beating Huddersfield – our local rivals – convincingly in the cup was a high and we also had a good league win against Stoke.
SK: What are your hopes for the rest of the season?
CS: Hopefully we can have a good game this weekend, you never know we could make the next round of the FA Cup, we certainly want to retain the [West Riding] County Cup and finish in the top four of the league.
