Greenhalgh brace seals Burnley win
North West Premier pair Burnley and Wigan Athletic met for the right to visit Northumberland League Alnwick Town – conquerors of FA WPL side Rotherham United.
The Clarets were soon in front as Sarah Greenhalgh nipped in to intercept a header back to the keeper but when Burnley custodian Lauren Bracewell collided with team-mate Sammy Fleck, Athletic were given a gift in return.
Greenhalgh then found Leah Embley to fire inside the far post and when the latter won possession, Justine Wallace forced her way through to make it 3-1.
Bracewell denied the visitors a way back into the game with a diving save and although Greenhalgh saw her shot cleared off the Wigan line, she headed the resulting corner in off the underside of the crossbar.
Bolton see off CMB
CMB, only promoted this season to the North West League Premier Division – of which Bolton were champions last term – bowed out of the Cup, 5-2 to Wanderers.
Although Bolton were ahead through a Michelle Ryan goal from a third-minute corner, CMB soon replied from a flag-kick of their own, Sophie Elliot scoring from Chloe Grundy’s delivery.
Emma Pilling restored the lead from a penalty in the 25th minute and it was 3-1 when Emily Hockenhull went on a run and set up Ryan for a tap in.
Brit Jackson made a one-handed save to ensure the visitors took their two-goal cushion into the break and they went further ahead 8 minutes after the restart, Safron Newhouse netting on the follow-up from a penalty save.
Gabby Yates made it 5-1 on the hour mark with a strike from outside the box and Bolton were down to ten players as Gill Munro was unable to continue due to injury.
Ruby Howard hit the bar for Wanderers before CMB pulled a second goal back through Sophie Williams.
Bolton now go to Liverpool Marshalls Feds in the 1st Round on November 12th, a week before they meet in the FA WPL Northern Division 1.
