Boldmere Become Birmingham League Champs

Sunday’s 5-1 home win over title rivals Gornal took the Mikes out of their reach and also that of Starland St Annes, the only other side who could have catched them.

With two games to spare Boldmere made it two Championships in two seasons, despite Gornal taking a 12th-minute lead.

Cheyanne Jarvis began a decisive 18-minute period with the equaliser, Chantai Ahamed then finding the top corner rom 25 yards, afterwhich Emily Lloyd made it 3-1 from just inside the box and Kirsty Stevenson got the fourth shortly before the break.

Ruth Graham completed the scoring with a free kick in the last minute.

Mikes manager Andy Burman said: “Despite the scoreline this was a tough game. Gornal were always capable of causing problems. Some of our goals were spectacular and it was a gritty performance and well deserved victory. To be League Champions two years in succession speaks volumes for the whole team effort on and off the pitch. The large crowd were magnificent.”

Boldmere still have a League Cup Final against second-placed Rugby Town to look forward too.
