Blackburn Rovers yesterday completed the Deadline Day signing of defender Ellie Fletcher following the release from her contract at Liverpool FC Women.
The 20 year-old further bolsters Gemma Donnelly’s defensive options ahead of Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup game against her former club.
A former England U-19 international who has also been called up to U-21 camps, Fletcher made five first-team appearances at Liverpool since signing in 2016.
The right-back has had two loan spells at Sheffield United but both were ended by knee injuries, however she is now back fit and ready for action.
Fletcher told rovers.co.uk: “It’s been really frustrating. I’ve not had much luck with my knees but hopefully now all that is behind me and I can start to really kick on.
“I want to break into the team and get regular minutes which I’ve missed for the last couple of years.
“I’ve had a few international games and I think that will definitely help me, preparing for games and bringing all that experience.
“Now I want to try and get back into the setup if possible, enjoy my football and just see where it goes.”
