Neil Redfearn has moved to bolster his Doncaster Rovers Belles squad ahead of the final two games of the season, bringing in midfielder Kirsty Smith.
Doncaster say Smith has been training with them for a number of weeks and her efforts have been rewarded by the manager ahead of Sunday’s trip to Millwall.
The left-sided midfielder, who played for the Belles at junior level, joins after a spell in the States including a successful stint at Brenau University where she scored 13 goals and chipped in with 16 assists.
And now she wants to be part of a successful side at the Belles, where it all began for her at under-11s level.
Smith told doncasterroversbelles.co.uk : “I’m delighted to be joining the Belles. Everyone at the club has been so welcoming and I am grateful for this opportunity.
“The Belles has been a huge part of my football development since Under 11’s right up to reserve level and to be playing for my hometown again means a lot.
“I’ve been playing in America for the past seven years and decided to come back home for a new challenge. I have always been keeping up with the Belles and when I arrived back home this was the club I wanted to join.
“I was invited to train with the team and was impressed by the quality of players and coaching. I’m over the moon to be lucky enough to sign and cannot wait to get started at the club.
“Working under Neil Redfearn has been great. He’s a vastly experienced coach and I like the way he wants the game to be played. I am looking forward to developing as a player under his guidance and helping the team to further success.”
“I’m a competitive creative midfielder who likes to keep the game flowing and create opportunities.”
On the signing, Redfearn said: “Kirsty has been training with us for a while now after arriving back from the USA.
“She is a very competitive versatile operator who is naturally left footed which gives the squad more natural balance and competition down the left.
“She has a fantastic worth ethic and I’m looking forward to developing her with the rest of the squad.
Smith will be eligible for the game on Sunday should she be selected.
